HAMLETMASCHINE
Performance based on the text by Heiner Müller
With Jonathan Lazzini
Music and sound design by Emiliano Bagnato
Duration 00:30:00
A post-atomic Hamlet. Or rather, a non-Hamlet.
A stream of consciousness that touches the wounds and complexities of Western society as a whole. By exposing its distortions, it attempts to trace a path of escape from the capital-totalitarian system in which we produce / consume / perish.
Written in 1977, Die Hamletmaschine (“The Hamletmachine”) is a text that still today immediately evokes violent and rebellious imagery, never taking itself too seriously.
It looks neither to the past nor to the future. The action unfolds entirely in the here and now, in a Grotowskian sense—the only time we are allowed to inhabit.
The performance features an actor who, supported by an electronic soundscape, moves between Hamlet and Ophelia, revealing their farce—and their being out of time.
